Adventures in the life of a gorram nerd

Continuing with secret quilts that I can finally talk about…

The first quilt is for my mom. I started in probably 5 years ago and finally have it finished.

I was on a Shop Hop in Southern Arizona and saw these fat quarters and knew that I had to get them and make a quilt for my mom. We’re from Tucson, so there were always chili, cacti, and kokopelli around. My mom loves coffee and chocolate (who doesn’t?) and, at the time, I was going over to her house every Saturday for dinner. She loves her puppies, so there were the paw prints.

My mom used to say she was 29 and it became a family joke. I think a few years ago she finally turned 30. This quilt pattern is called “Turning Twenty”. You take 20 fat quarters, make a few cuts, rotate the fabrics, and turn the blocks. So it seemed like a very appropriate quilt name.

The second quilt is for my stepdad. This one is only 3 years in the making :-/ He is big into classic monster movies so when I found this fabric with Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, and the Wolfman, I knew I had to get it. I used a faux attic window block (mine is all rectangles) to showcase the fabric. The black fabric has bats on it.
